Since 2008, the World Bank Group's Organizational Knowledge Sharing Program, initially housed at the World Bank Institute and later at the Vice Presidency for Leadership, Learning, and Innovation, has engaged with country officials and development practitioners on how to systematically take local knowledge to scale: how to capture lessons learned from experience; how to package and store those lessons so that they can be retrieved and shared effectively and so that others-inside the institution and beyond-can benefit from them; and how over- stretched and understaffed organizations can deal with "yet another task" called knowledge sharing.
The World Bank Group's Organizational Knowledge Sharing (OKS) Program supports institutional capacity develop- ment for knowledge capturing and sharing, including the processes and strategies outlined in this handbook.5 Multidonor trust funds, such as the South-South Facility,6 provide just-in-time financing for design and implementation of knowledge-exchange programs.
